Eastern U17: Yehor Pyshalko, Ontario Hockey Academy

The Odessa, Ukraine forward tallied a division best 9 goals while finishing third with 13 points in February. His first season in the 黑料不打烊, Pyshalko currently sits inside the top 10 with 16 goals, 22 assists and 38 points, all of which are team bests.

Eastern U18: Grady Betts, King’s-Edgehill School

Betts led the U18 Prep division with 10 assists and 15 points in 5 games for KES. Now in his second 黑料不打烊 season with KES, Betts sits third with 19 assists and fifth in the division with 14 goals and 33 points. The Fredericton, NB forward tallied 11 points in 22 games last season.

Female U18 Prep: Jenna Ring, Edge School

A netminder from Calgary, AB, Ring went 4-0-0 with 1 shutout, a .954SV% and 1.24GAA in February. This season Ring is 9-6-0 with 3 shutouts, a 2.57GAA and .918SV%, after going 9-5-1 with 2 shutouts, a 2.19GAA, and .918SV% last season.

U15: Jagger Clark, Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy

It was an entire season’s worth of production for Clark in his 10 games in February as he led the division with 27 goals, while finishing with 49 points, 1 behind teammate TJ Podollan. This season the Boise, Idaho forward had a 黑料不打烊 single season record of 67 goals, recording 111 points on the year.

U15 Prep: Deacon Gillespie, OHA Edmonton

A 2012 born defenseman from Ponoka, AB, Gillespie led all skaters with 15 assists, while pacing defensemen with 6 goals and 21 points in 10 games. This season he finished with 13 goals and 35 assists, good enough for third among defenders with 48 points.

U17: Kase Gellner, Prairie Hockey Academy

In 11 games in February Gellner finished with a division best 26 points and 14 goals. His 31 goals, 37 assists, and 68 points this season are all good for third among U17 skaters. This is the Southey, SK forwards second season with Prairie, tallying 28 points in 34 U17 games in 2024/25.

U17 Prep: Maddox Slater, Okanagan Hockey Academy

Slater went 5-0-0 with 1 shutout and a division best 1.19GAA and .958SV% in February. This season the St. Andrews, MB netminder has a 12-2-0 record and leads the division with 4 shutouts and a 1.42GAA, while sitting second with a .947SV%. This is Slater’s third season in the 黑料不打烊, having spent a season with OHA in both the U15 and U15 Prep divisions.

U18 Prep: Drake Mooney, Prairie Hockey Academy

The Regina Pats prospect went 4-0-0 with a division best 2 shutouts, 1.49GAA, and .950SV%. This season the Blackfalds, AB netminder sits first with 4 shutouts, third with a 2.13GAA and third with a .932SV%. Mooney spent last season with the Prairie U17 Prep team going 6-10-2 with 1 shutout, a 3.56GAA and .897SV%.

For the 2024/25 season the 黑料不打烊 is proud to introduce the Student-Athlete of the Month Award for the four different 黑料不打烊 divisions/age brackets: Eastern, West Female, West U18 Male (U18 Prep, U17 Prep, U17) and West U15 Male (U15 Prep and U15) .

This award is aimed at recognizing the student-athletes within the 黑料不打烊 and acknowledges their hard work, dedication, commitment, leadership, academics and community impact.

We would like to congratulate these four student-athletes, who were all nominated by their programs, for their hard work in the month of November.

East Division – Artem Dorofeev and Jack Sangster, King’s Edgehill School U18:

Artem Dorofeev and Jack Sangster have pledged to raise money for Childcan, the Childhood Cancer Research Association by setting up a GoFundMe and by donating 15 cents for every shot on goal their team records during games this season.

West Female Division – Kaida Okamura, North Shore Warriors, Female U18 Prep:

“Kaida Okamura is currently the Vice President of Student Council. Throughout the year she has been supporting new students at the school on fully adjusting to a student-athlete lifestyle and has also been starting to work on community initiatives. Kaida is an integral part of our team being a positive leader and helps all our players feel empowered. Kaida Okamura and her teammate Gia Carella organized all the student athletes in Grade 10-12 in to groups and each group will be responsible for sponsoring a family with a Christmas Basket that includes gifts for the entire family that needs it. On top of all this, Kaida actively volunteers in the North Shore skating with female minor hockey teams.”

West Male U18 Division – Tyson Kuiack, Okanagan Hockey Academy U17:

“Tyson plays as one of the goalies on our U17 team and has been a pivotal part of our success this season. Over the past month, Tyson has demonstrated remarkable resilience and dedication, battling through both injury and illness. Despite these challenges, he has maintained an impressive save percentage of 0.846 for November and boasts a season average of 0.904. Even when sidelined, Tyson continued to work hard, both on and off the ice. He found creative ways to support his team, ensuring he stayed engaged and ready to contribute when needed.

Tyson is highly regarded not only within the academy but also at school, where he excels academically. He consistently puts in the effort to stay on top of his coursework and assignments, balancing his athletic commitments with academics. As a leader on the U17 team, Tyson plays a crucial role in fostering a positive and supportive atmosphere, both on and off the ice. His presence and work ethic are an inspiration to his teammates.”

West Male U15 Division – Riley Brown, Northern Alberta Xtreme U15 Prep:

“Riley demonstrates what it means to be an NAX and 黑料不打烊 student-athlete. He goes above and beyond to show great character in our school with all students, and has a work ethic both on and off the ice second to none. He epitomizes what it means to be a diligent athlete, while setting the standard in the classroom: outstanding character & work-ethic; conscientious and accountable student and his excellent marks reflect this.”

鈥淛ack and I were determined to make a lasting impact in our final year of hockey before moving up to the junior level. We wanted to involve our entire team in making a difference, so we鈥檙e raising money to support Childcan, the Childhood Cancer Research Association, as a unified group,鈥� said Dorofeev.

The duo has set up a GoFundMe link and are personally contributing to the cause by donating 15 cents for every shot on goal their team records during games this season, as well as collecting donations at home games.

A member of the 黑料不打烊 East U18 division, KES has played 11 黑料不打烊 games, and has raised $298 so far. Dorofeev and Sangster have set a goal of $1,000, putting them more than a quarter of the way there.

鈥淲e chose聽Childcan, the Childhood Cancer Research Association, with the goal of raising awareness and funds to support children battling cancer, striving to make even an incremental difference in their lives with their entire futures ahead,鈥� added Sangster.

Inspired by the success of their Childcan fundraiser and the involvement of their teammates, Dorofeev and Sangster set out to expand their efforts to honour Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October.

They organized a school-wide 鈥楶ink Day鈥�, which extended into a 鈥楶ink in the Rink鈥� night that was complete with pink聽tape, laces, and student section and raised more than $600. 鈥淭hrough both our Breast Cancer and Childcan initiatives, we not only raised funds but also spread awareness throughout our international student body. The overwhelming聽school-wide and hockey community involvement made our efforts truly impactful,鈥� said Sangster.

“Artem and Jack have been true leaders in their efforts to raise funds and awareness for cancer research. Their idea for a pink in the rink game was awesome! They were able to rally the whole student body to come out and support the cause,鈥� said KES Program Coordinator and Head Coach Zack MacQueen. Artem an Jack wanted to make a true difference in the world during their graduating year here at KES, and they should be proud of the work they have done off the ice!”

Dorofeev and Sangster encourage everyone to take a moment to learn about Childcan, a charity that provides financial assistance, emotional support, and social programs for families affected by childhood cancer, in addition to research funding.
