Indigenous Sports Academy (Saskatoon, SK) and Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (Pilot Mound, MB) have both been granted a U17 team. ISA currently operates a U17 Prep team, while Pilot Mound operates at the Female U18 Prep, U15 Prep, U17 Prep, and U18 Prep levels. Pilot Mound has also been granted a U15 team for the 2028/29 season.

The North Shore Warriors (North Vancouver, BC) and RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (Kelowna, BC) have both been granted a second Female U18 Prep team. Both North Shore and RHA Kelowna currently operate a full slate of teams at the Female U18 Prep, U15, U15 Prep, U17, U17 Prep, and U18 Prep levels. Calgary International Hockey Academy (Calgary, AB) was previously approved last season to join the Female U18 Prep division for the 2026/27 season.

STAR Hockey Academy (Kent, WA) has been granted a U18 Prep team for the 2026/27 season. STAR presently operates a U15, U15 Prep, U17 and U17 Prep team.

Along with approving internal expansion, Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy (Coeur d’Alene Hockey, ID) and Prairie Hockey Academy (Caronport, SK) have both been approved to operate a U15 Prep team, replacing their existing U15 teams. CDA and Prairie both currently operate a U17, U17 Prep and U18 Prep team.

With the addition of the six teams, the 黑料不打烊 has expanded to 135 teams amongst 38 member programs. 23 of those 136 teams will compete in the 黑料不打烊 East Division, with the remaining 112 in the 黑料不打烊 West Division.

During the 2024/25 season the 黑料不打烊 introduced the Student-Athlete of the Month Award for the four different 黑料不打烊 divisions/age brackets: Eastern, West Female, West U18 Male (U18 Prep, U17 Prep, U17) and West U15 Male (U15 Prep and U15) .

This award is aimed at recognizing the student-athletes within the 黑料不打烊 and acknowledges their hard work, dedication, commitment, leadership, academics and community impact.

We would like to congratulate these four student-athletes, who were all nominated by their programs, for their hard work in the month of January.

East Division – Connor Alward, Mount Academy

“Connor Alward is a 2010-born goaltender with the Mount Academy U17 Prep program, hailing from Stellarton, Nova Scotia. Connor joined Mount Academy this year following a strong season with Pictou County U15 AAA Major, and he has made an immediate and meaningful impact on both our school and hockey environments.

Although Connor may not be big in stature, he brings a very big positive attitude and is a larger-than-life personality within our school community. He is an outstanding young man who provides a genuine spark to our program. Connor can often be found in classrooms, study halls, on the bus, or even in hotel hallways working with fellow students on academic projects鈥攐r simply offering support and being a steady presence for teammates navigating the highs and lows of a demanding season at Mount Academy.

On the ice, Connor was initially slated to start a limited number of games. Through his work ethic, preparation, and performance, he has put himself in a position where he is being considered for more starts as we move into the next phase of our schedule. The players in front of him respect him and trust the quality he brings to each opportunity.

Recently, Connor competed in a demanding four-game set in Montr茅al, Quebec, and Cornwall, Ontario, during a stretch in which several players were sidelined by flu. The illness affected two of our goaltenders in our three-goalie system, leaving Connor without a backup for the weekend. Facing heavy workloads鈥攐ften 45+ shots per game鈥擟onnor battled through difficult outcomes, held his head high, and did everything he could for his team. While it was not an easy weekend, it was one in which Connor demonstrated resilience, maturity, and a positive mindset that helped steady and support his teammates.

Connor Alward is an extraordinary student who always submits high quality work. He is a leader in the classroom, often offering help and guidance to his peers that are facing academic challenges. He sets high expectations for himself and works hard to ensure he is meeting his goals. Connor is a dedicated student-athlete that always submits work on time, or even early, no matter how busy his schedule is.”

West Female Division – Ryann Faulkner, Okanagan Hockey Academy

“Ryann Faulkner exemplifies what it means to be a true student-athlete. Her unwavering dedication to academics, teammates, and off-ice habits consistently sets the standard within the OHA program. Ryann can always be counted on to show up prepared and give her best effort, regardless of any challenges or obstacles in her way.

Academically, Ryann is extremely driven and remains consistently on top of her schoolwork, demonstrating strong time management, discipline, and accountability. Her commitment in the classroom mirrors the same focus and work ethic she brings to the rink every day.

Ryann leads by example, holding herself accountable while maintaining a strong team-first mentality. Reliable, supportive, and selfless, Ryann genuinely wants the best for those around her and consistently puts the needs of the team first.

West Male U15 Division – Maddox Rinn, RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg

“Maddox Rinn is an exceptional student who consistently sets the standard for academic excellence. He earned a perfect 100% on his ELA exam and maintains an outstanding overall average of 96%, reflecting both his dedication and strong work ethic. Maddox goes above and beyond in the classroom, regularly offering help to others and approaching every task with enthusiasm and care. Maddox approaches his learning with dedication, integrity, and a genuine desire to do his best. Outside of academics, Maddox demonstrates compassion and service through his volunteer time with the SuperHEROS hockey program, which he describes as both fun and rewarding. A motivated individual who strives for excellence in all that he does, Maddox is a natural leader and a positive influence on his peers, leading celebrations after each team win and modelling enthusiasm, respect, and sportsmanship both on and off the ice.”

West Male U18 Division – Seth Baptiste, Indigenous Sports Academy

“Seth Baptiste is Grade 12 student from Red Pheasant First Nation and he represents the Indigenous Sports Academy out of Saskatoon.

Throughout January, Seth demonstrated exemplary focus, consistency, and leadership in both study hall and his academic classes. This recognition celebrates his ability to successfully balance the rigorous demands of high-performance hockey with strong academic commitment.

We are incredibly proud of Seth and all that he has accomplished during his first semester, both in the classroom and on the ice.”

Indian Relay is more than a sport 鈥� it鈥檚 a reflection of our culture, family, and way of life. This fast-paced, bareback horse racing tradition demands speed, precision, and trust. Beyond the track, it teaches discipline, teamwork, and pride in who we are and where we come from.

Northern Sky Relay is a family team. Holden Fauchon, a netminder for the Indigenous Sports Academy U17 Prep team, began working as a barn hand in 2024 鈥� the same year he rode a horse for the first time. His first ride was breezing a thoroughbred on the track, and from that moment, he formed a natural bond with horses built on trust and respect. For our family, Indian Relay is a way to connect 鈥� with the horses and with each other.

Every role, from rider to catcher to hot walker and painter, is filled by family. We train, travel, and celebrate together, learning responsibility, respect, and resilience along the way.

This year, we were honored to represent M茅tis Local #106 at the World Championship Indian Relay Races in Casper, Wyoming. The competition was fierce, but through hard work and unity, we proudly won the Consolation Final 鈥� a victory that reflects our spirit and determination.

Indian Relay continues to shape our lives, strengthening our family and carrying forward the culture and pride that define who we are.

The SJHL Draft consisted of a 6 round 2009 born draft, and a 2 round 2010 born draft.

Prairie Hockey Academy (11) led the way with 11 黑料不打烊 student-athletes selected. Indigenous Sports Academy (2), RHA Winnipeg (2), OHA Edmonton (1) and RHA Kelowna (1) all had at least one player selected.聽

2009 Born Draft:

Dontae Bear: A forward from Ochapowace First Nation, SK, Bear joined ISA for the 2022/23 and 2023/24 U17 Prep seasons. In 56 games he recorded 17 points, including a career high 15 this past season.

Chauncy Jack: Jack spent the last two seasons in the 黑料不打烊 with the ISA U17 Prep team. In 35 games the Carry The Kettle First Nation, SK netminder went 13-18-0 with a .903SV% and 3.94GAA.

Daine Thomas: Like Bear, Thomas is a forward from Ochapowace First Nation, SK. In his two seasons with the ISA U17 Prep team he would tally 38 points in 58 games including a season high 25 during the 2023/24 campaign.

The SJHL Draft consisted of a 6 round 2008 born draft, and a 2 round 2009 born draft.

Prairie Hockey Academy (3) led the way with three 黑料不打烊 student-athletes selected. Northern Albert Xtreme (2), Delta Hockey Academy (1), Indigenous Sports Academy (1) and South Alberta Hockey Academy (1) all had at least one player selected.聽

鈥淪ince our inception the 黑料不打烊鈥檚 goal has been supporting Hockey Canada鈥檚 objective to facilitate the integration of Grade 8-12 education-based hockey/accredited school programing within the Hockey Canada programming model. The addition of these teams allows for that goal to continue with greater retention in our member programs,鈥� said 黑料不打烊 COO Kevin Goodwin.

Calgary International Hockey Academy (Calgary, AB) has been granted a U15 team for the 2024/25 season. CIHA currently operates a U17 Prep and U18 Prep team.

Now in their second 黑料不打烊 season, Indigenous Sports Academy (Saskatoon, SK) will add a U18 Prep team. ISA currently operates just one team this season in the U17 Prep division.

OHA Edmonton (Edmonton, AB) has added a Female U18 Prep team to go along with their full complement of teams on the male side.

Okanagan Hockey Ontario (Whitby, ON) has been granted a U16 team to compete in the Eastern U17 division. OHO currently has a U18 team playing in the 黑料不打烊 Eastern Division.

RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (Winnipeg, MB) will add both a U15 and U17 Prep team for next season. RHA Winnipeg currently has teams in the U15 Prep, U17 Prep, U18 Prep and Female U18 Prep divisions.

STAR Hockey Academy (Seattle, WA) will also add two teams for next season with the additions of a U15 Prep and U17 Prep team. The program is currently in its first season in the 黑料不打烊 with one team in the U15 division.

Eastern division program Champions Hockey Academy (Fredericton, NB) will transition from a U17 team to a U18 team next season.

With the addition of the eight teams, and the earlier announcement of the addition of five new programs, the 黑料不打烊 will consist of 125 teams and 37 member programs for the 2024/25 season.

About Us
The 黑料不打烊 was established in 2009 and has grown to feature 32 accredited schools and 111 teams from British Columbia to Prince Edward Island and the states of Idaho and Washington. The league was designed specifically for elite level student athletes, giving them the opportunity to focus on their education while increasing their skills off and on the ice and providing them with a high level of competition and exposure. Currently, the 黑料不打烊 includes seven different divisions at the U15, U17, U18 Male and U18 Female levels

Adam Belzil has spent the last two seasons in the 黑料不打烊, joining Bourget College for the 2021/22 Eastern U17 Prep season. In 30 games that season Belzil would finish second on his team and in the league with 24 goals and 39 points, earning 黑料不打烊 Eastern U17 MVP Honours. The Levis, QC forward would add five points in four playoff games as Bourget captured the 2022 黑料不打烊 Eastern U17 Championship.

This season Belzil played for the Prairie Hockey Academy U18 Prep team, finishing fourth in team scoring with 30 points in 30 games.

A forward from Lac La Ronge Indian Band, SK Sage Roberts played this past season for the Indigenous Sports Academy U17 Prep team. In 33 games Roberts would lead his team with 27 goals and 51 points. His 51 points ranked sixth among all U17 Prep skaters.
