“This is the best feeling in the world. I鈥檝e been dreaming about this my whole life and it was all worth it,” said Jankowski in a text message to Stanstead College.
The Hurricanes secured the franchise’s second Stanley Cup title on June 14, defeating the Vegas Golden Knights 3-0 in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final. The victory marked Carolina’s first championship since 2006 and capped a dominant playoff run in which the Hurricanes finished with a 16-3 post-season record.

Before becoming a first-round NHL Draft pick and professional hockey player, Jankowski spent two seasons at Stanstead College, where his combination of size, skill and hockey intelligence attracted attention from scouts across North America.

In his senior year, Jankowski earned the Dawes Trophy as the varsity boys MVP, and, just prior to graduation, he was selected 21st overall by the Calgary Flames, becoming the highest-drafted Canadian high school player in NHL history. In 2015, Jankowski helped the Providence College Friars earn their first NCAA title with a 4-3 win against Boston University.

鈥淚 remember June of 2012 when Mark left campus a day after writing exams and headed to Pittsburgh for the NHL draft,鈥 recalled Stanstead Director of Hockey Operations James Rioux. 鈥淔ourteen years later, almost to the day, to see him hoisting the Stanley Cup with his Carolina teammates, with his family there, wow, that’s just so special. What a moment for Mark.”

Mr. Rioux said the school always believed in him, and his former classmates and teachers have been following his career.

“His determination and effort have been rewarded with the ultimate prize in hockey,” said Mr. Rioux.

Now in his 10th NHL season, Jankowski played an important depth role for the Hurricanes throughout their championship campaign. During the 2025-26 regular season, he appeared in 68 games, recording 11 goals and 10 assists while contributing on Carolina’s penalty kill and in key defensive situations. His strong play earned him a two-year contract extension with the club during the season.

Jankowski also made his mark during the playoffs. In Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final, he scored a crucial third-period goal that helped spark a Carolina comeback victory.

In recent years, the Jankowski family have recognized the role Stanstead College played in the development of their sons, Mark and David (2015) by largely funding the school’s hockey training centre, named in their honour.

A forward from Winnipeg, MB, Jarvis spent two seasons in the 黑料不打烊 with RHA Winnipeg, tallying 126 points in 62 games during the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons.

Stankoven, a forward from Kamloops, BC, joined Yale Hockey Academy for the 2017/18 U15 Prep season, posting 90 points in 30 games, leading the division with 57 goals.

Jarvis and Stankoven join Yale Hockey Academy’s Bowen Byram (2022, Colorado Avalanche) and Okanagan Hockey Academy’s Josh Mahura (2024, Florida Panthers) as the only 黑料不打烊 alumni to win a Stanley Cup.

Former 黑料不打烊 student athletes Jake Sanderson, Seth Jarvis, Kaiden Guhle and Jake Neighbours were selected in the first round of the 2020 NHL Draft on Tuesday.聽

Sanderson was picked fifth overall by the Ottawa Senators, Jarvis was selected thirteenth overall by the Carolina Hurricanes, Guhle went sixteenth to the Montreal Canadiens while Neighbours was drafted twenty-sixth overall by the St. Louis Blues.

This year marks the fourth time in five years that a minimum of two 黑料不打烊 alums were selected in the first round of the NHL Draft and the first time that four former student athletes were selected.

Sanderson, 18, skated for the Edge School鈥檚 U16 Prep team in 2017-18 where he registered 16 goals and 27 assists (16-27-43) in 32 regular season games. The 2002 born defenseman added three points (1-2-3) in the 2018 BDO 黑料不打烊 Championships.

The Whitefish, MT native spent the past two seasons playing for the US Development Program.聽

Jarvis, 18, competed for the Rink Hockey Academy鈥檚 Midget Prep squad for two seasons, most recently in the 2017-18 campaign where he scored 32 goals and 28 points (32-28-60) in the 32 regular season games.聽

During the 2018 BDO 黑料不打烊 Championships, the 2002 born forward added three goals and two assists (3-2-5) in five playoff games.聽

The Winnipeg, MB product laced up for the Western Hockey League鈥檚 Portland Winterhawks for the 2019-20 season where he netted 42 goals and 56 assists (42-56-98) in 58 regular season games.聽

Guhle, 18, suited up for OHA Edmonton for two seasons, most recently during the 2017-18 where he registered 39 points (14-25-39) in 35 games for OHA鈥檚 Midget Prep team and two points (1-1-2) in three 2018 BDO 黑料不打烊 Championship games.聽

The Sherwood Park, Atla. born defensemen has spent the past two seasons playing for the Westen Hockey League鈥檚 Prince Albert Raiders where he tallied 14 goals and 44 assists (14-44-58) in 137 career games.聽

Neighbours, 18, netted 31 goals and 42 assists (31-42-73) in 34 regular season games for the Pursuit of Excellence鈥檚 Bantam Prep team and added 11 points (5-6-11) during the 2017 黑料不打烊 Championships.

In three seasons playing for the Edmonton Oil Kings, the Airdrie, Alta native recorded 34 goals and 64 assists (34-64-98) in 122 career WHL games.
